What Is a Free URL Shortener?
A free URL shortener stores your long address and returns a much shorter one. When someone opens the short link, the service sends the browser to the original page with an HTTP redirect. Long links come from category paths, filters and UTM tracking tags, and they break in emails, wrap badly in chats and cannot be typed from a printed poster. Does a Free URL Shortener Hurt SEO?
No. Short links are redirects, which search engines have followed for years; Google's guide to redirects and Google Search explains how. Your browser sends the long URL directly to is.gd and receives the short link. If it is unavailable the tool tries v.gd, then CleanURI and TinyURL, and each history entry shows the service used. Is this free URL shortener really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, subscription or hidden fee. Links are created through the public is.gd service, which applies fair-use limits, so if you see a wait message, try again after a minute.
Do short links expire?
is.gd describes its links as permanent. Two caveats apply: if the destination page is deleted the short link leads to the same dead page, and the provider can disable links that break its terms. Backup services apply their own terms.
Can I track clicks on a short link?
Yes. Keep Track clicks switched on before you press Shorten, then use the Stats button or add a hyphen to the end of the short link. Links made with the option off have no statistics.
Can I shorten many links at once?
Yes. Paste one URL per line (up to 20) and press Shorten. Custom aliases are ignored in bulk mode, and you can copy all results or export them as CSV.
